Hustling up a political storm on the first anniversary of Pulwama terror attack, CPI(M) Mohammed Salim today said there wasn't any need to build a memorial for the CRPF personnel killed in the attack last year as it would only remind of incompetence.
A memorial has been built to commemorate the sacrifice of the jawans at Lethpora camp in the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir. The names and pictures of the 40 personnels who laid down their lives for the nation are being displayed on the memorial.
"We don't need a memorial to remind us of our incompetence. The only thing we need to know is how 80kg of RDX got past the international borders to the 'most militarised zone on earth' and exploded in Pulwama," the CPI(M) leader wrote on Twitter on Friday. Mohammed Salim went on to ask for 'Justice for Pulwama.
The CPI(M) leader also said though the sacrifice of the soldiers should be remembered, questions need to be asked about the failure of the agencies to stop the dastardly terror attack in Pulwama.
After the Left leader, Congress's Rahul Gandhi launched an attack on the Modi government as he asked who benefitted the most from the attack and what has been the outcome of the inquiry.
Rahul Gandhi asked who in the BJP government had been held accountable for the security lapses that allowed the attack. "Today as we remember our 40 CRPF martyrs in the Pulwama Attack, let us ask: 1. Who benefitted the most from the attack? 2. What is the outcome of the inquiry into the attack? 3. Who in the BJP Govt has yet been held accountable for the security lapses that allowed the attack?" Rahul Gandhi asked on Twitter.
On February 14 last year, Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber Adeel Ahmed Dar drove an explosive-laden car into a convoy of security forces, killing 40 personnel.
