A JILTED ALLIANCE In a startling turn of events, Mrs. Priyanka chaturvedi who was the national spokesperson of the Indian national congress and had been touted as a strong leader and a youth influencer has deserted her party of 10 years and joined the Shiv sena. The resignation came after the Indian national congress failed to straighten things up, after an incident of misbehaviour had been reported by Priyanka chaturevedi, by some congress workers in Mthura. The party instead of taking a corrective action, decided to reinstate the workers those were suspended after the incident. This gave impetus to Priyanka’s misery and ire. The nod for reinstatement was given by Jyotiraditya schindia who, along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are spearheading the campaign in UP. Her entry into the Shiv sena has been very cordial and she is being welcomed with open arms. Party chief Uddhav Thackeray went on to say that the Shiv sena had found a new sister in her.
This comes as a big blow to the Indian national congress with the LOK sabha elections underway. The party has not been able to address a cardinal issue such as women’s rights in a diligent way. This incident has capped several other inhibitions that are already being attached to the party including weak leadership and faltering ideologies. Randeep Surjewala has gone on record to say that the Congress party is pained by the loss and the resignation a reflection of his leadership.
Having said that, another explanation that has come to fore, pertaining to the cause of the resignation, has been Priyanka’s displeasure over Congress’s decision to not consider her ambition, to contest from the Mumbai north Lok sabha constituency or from Mathur, UP. Though this reason has been completely refuted by priyanaka but the critiques are divided over the issue. Moreover, if Priyanka’s fate in the Shiv sena shall remain tricky, given the fact that Shiv sena and the BJP are allies it is going to get complex in more ways than one as she has been critical of many BJP leaders, including Smriti Irani, over her education row. What remains to be seen is how, Priyanka shall manage her position in Shiv Sena amidst all the animosity that she had gathered while in Congress.
This change in the scenario is bound to have an impact now when the congress is all set to go to polls in Mumbai on 28th April.
