A video clip released by terrorist organisation Islamic State revealed the main assailants of the gruesome attacks carried out in eight multiple locations in Colombo on April 21. Leader of the NTJ was seen in the video pledging allegiance to IS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Zahran Hashim, a controversial cleric of the island nation, has been revealed to have played a major role in dispensing the worst attacks in the country’s history.
The video released by ISIS after it claimed responsibility for the blasts that killed more than 350 people prominently features Hashim. Out of the eight people featured in the video, Hashim is the only one with his face uncovered. A rifle in his hand, he is dressed in a black tunic and headscarf much like the others. Hashim is seen leading seven people in a pledge of allegiance to the group’s chief Al-Baghdadi.
Sri Lanka’s government had suspected National Thoweeth Jamaath, a Islamic group, as the main assailants of the attack before the video came out. As per the police, the group was lead by Hashim.
