SUICIDE BOMBING IN LAHORE
A deadly bomb blast has joggled the city of Lahore. As the world convulses with the shocking instances of terror attacks all over the world, the news of Lahore suicide bombing has badly shook the world.
The bombing took place outside a shrine, Data Darbar on Wednesday morning. It is a very popular shrine and one of the largest in South Asia. The bomb blast has left 8 people dead and 25 injured. Amongst the 8 fatal casualities, 5 were policeman. What needs to be noted is that the holy month of Ramandan is going on and there were several people present at the shrine. Despite of that, the bomb went off near the security personnel when there was hardly any civilian near them.
Syed Mubashir Hussain who is a spokesman for the Lahore police said that “"It was an attack on police that left several dead and dozens of policemen and civilians injured. The target was police"
Pakistani Taliban has claimed the full responsibility of the terror attack. Hizbul Ahrar, which is a fringe group of the Pakistani Taliban gave a statement through their spokesperson Abdul Aziz Yousafzai that “This attack was carried out at a time when there were no civilians near the police”. The shrine is a popular Sufi shrine and the militants have often viewed some of its rituals as “un Islamic”. It is not the first time that this shrine has been targeted by terror groups. A terror attack on this shrine in 2010 had killed more than 40 people.
In the wake of this terrorist attack, Prime Minister Imran Khan has tweeted that “Strongly condemn the terror blast outside Data Darbar this morning. Have asked Punjab govt to provide all assistance to the injured & families of victims.”
The country had faced an atrocious terror attack back in 2014, in which nearly 150 people had died. The attack took place at a school in Peshawar. The country had upped its security parameters after that but clearly there are still some glitches.
