Rani Mukherjee is returning to the big screens with her high octane performance as a police officer hell bent to catch a juvenile accused in evil rape cases. Yash Raj banner has released the trailer and we must say it looks intriguing.
All set to hit the theatres on December 13, Rani dons the role of fierce inspector Shivani Roy. While the 2014 film Mardaani dealt with the issue of human trafficking, the sequel sees Shivani Roy on a quest to nab a serial rapist.
Mardaani 2 is based in Kota, Rajasthan, a town where students from all over the country come to take IIT-JEE coaching. The trailer starts with a girl taking lift from a juvenile guy. He then rapes her and brutally commits a murders.
Entire Shivani Roy, who has been assigned to nab the serial rapist. They engage in a cat-and-mouse-chase. Director Gopi Puthran, mentions, "Rani as Shivani will be seen in a massive showdown with a 21-year-old villain who is an embodiment of pure evil. He is a dangerous criminal who targets women." The film marks the directorial debut of Puthran, who was the writer of the first Mardaani film.
Talking about the film, Rani said, "The film will see a woman cop fighting a pure evil of a person to end crimes against women. As we all know, Navratri stands for the victory and battle of good over evil across India."
She added, "Whether it is Goddess Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura or Lord Rama's victory over Ravana, Navratri's significance is key to this asset launch. So, we decided to start the journey of Mardaani 2 on this auspicious occasion."
The trailer looks promising and looks like the Yash Raj production banner is back in its groove with this crime thriller.
